The great show of CEV EuroBeachVolley 2024 started today in the Netherlands, a great Beach Volleyball showdown on the Dutch sand, with the top European athletes battling for the Euro Title!
The three host cities, The Hague, Apeldoorn and Arnhem saw the first day of games in Women's tournament, while tomorrow will start Men's Tournament
The opener of CEV EuroBeachVolley 2024 took place today in the three host cities of The Netherlands, The Hague, Apeldoorn and Arnhem, with the emotional introduction in Apeldoorn of Tournament Director Bas Van de Goor, legendary Olympic Champ with The Netherlands in 1996 in Atlanta.
Waiting for the start of Men's tournament tomorrow, Women's tournament saw already a bunch of emotional games and important upsets in all the Pools.
Big upset in Pool A in The Hague, with the N.1 couple of the Seed, Austrians Friedl/Trailovic stunned by Dutches Konink/Poiesz, N.32. It was a clear 2-0 (21-12, 21-16) for the Orange girls, who gained confidence and enthusiasm after this great win.
After the easy win of Germans Schneider/Kozuch over Italians Bianchin/Scampoli, another big upset took place in Pool B in Apeldoorn, with outsiders Ukrainians Hladun/Lazarenko, N.31 of the Seed, who stunned N.2 home team Stam/Schoon of The Netherlands, recovering from a one set deficit (14-21) by winning second and third 21-13 and 15-11.
In Arnhem favourite of Pool C Latvians Graudina/Samoilova defeated French Placette/Richard, 2-1 (21-18, 19-21, 15-13) was the result in favour of N.3 of the Seed, who started the Tournament with the right step.
In Pool D in The Hague, N.4 Italians Gottardi/Menegatti (ITA), suffered a big comeback in the Italian Derby, defeated 1-2 (21-16 19-21, 10-15) by the N.20 Orsi Toth/Bianchi in a very interesting and emotional challenge.
In Pool E in Arnhem it was a quick one for Germans Müller/Tillmann over another German couple, Ludwig/Lippmann, 2-0 (21-14, 21-19) was the final result in favour of the N.5 of the Seed.
In The Hague another same country challenge in Pool F, with an all Spanish clash between N.6 Alvarez Mendoza/Moreno Matveeva, and Carro/Gonzalez, N.27. It was a tight one in favour of Alvarez Mendoza/Moreno Matveeva, 15-11 in third set.
In Pool G in Apeldoorn N.7 of Seed Swiss Böbner/Vergé-Dépré Z. defeated 2-0 (21-8, 21-16) Ukrainians N.26 Davidova/Khmil, while another upset took place in Pool H in The Hague, with Dutch team Bröring/Van Driel E, N.25 of the Seed, who defeated favourite Austrians Klinger D./Klinger R., N.8, in a tight two sets win (24-22, 23-21)
After the big start of today with Women, everything is ready for the start of Men's Tournament on tomorrow, with a couple of medals at last Olympics in Paris, silver medallists Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler from Germany, ready to step again on the sand challenging for the European title.
