Even though it is late January, we do have some great news for all Beach Volleyball fans: the A1 CEV EuroBeachVolley 2023 will be taking place for the first time in front of a great unique backdrop on Vienna’s iconic Danube Island! The event scheduled for August 2-6 will gather the European Beach Volleyball elite at the site of some truly legendary events, the 2017 World Championships and the 2018 and 2019 Majors, which each attracted well over 100,000 visitors.

A huge Beach Volleyball party will be unfolding later this summer on Danube Island

“Although we have felt very comfortable on the Heumarkt in the past two years, despite many pros, the cons were that we were limited in terms of grandstand seats. With the return to Danube Island, we will be able to offer fans and partners alike the usual big stage again.”

Peter Hacker, Vienna’s City Councillor for Social Affairs, Health and Sport: “It is nice that the tournament is returning to the Danube Island. This is where we experienced great Austrian successes and a stadium atmosphere that was not possible at Heumarkt simply because of the space available there. I am happy about the return to the island because we can give more fans the opportunity to experience this top event live again. With the Beach Village, we are also creating attractive offers for families and young visitors away from the centre court.”

Peter Hanke, City Councillor for Economic Affairs: “I am very happy that EuroBeachVolley will be held in our capital again. Beach Volleyball and Vienna simply belong together. The major sporting event has now become a fixed point in the annual calendar, inspires tens of thousands of visitors of all ages every year and brings many tourists to Vienna as well. With the return of this world-class event to the popular Danube Island, even more fans will be able to be there, and we will also show that Vienna is still the ideal venue for hosting major international events.”

The A1 CEV EuroBeachVolley 2023 is going to be a tremendous show combining elite sport and entertainment of the finest level, which will cement the status of Vienna as the global Beach Volleyball ‘hotspot’. Vienna had previously hosted a memorable 2021 edition of the European Championship right after the Tokyo Olympics as well as last year’s inaugural CEV Beach Volley Nations Cup.

In addition to the gigantic Beach Arena, for which tickets will soon go on sale in advance, other attractions such as the Beach Village, which is open to everyone with free admission, including a show stage and public viewing, will be available too. Further information and details about the event will follow shortly.
