There is no doubt about it, with the gold medal at the Olympics, the Beach Volley Vikings have completed one of the most dominant Olympic cycles that we have ever seen in beach volleyball. Starting in 2018, they won a world tour final in Fort Lauderdale, third in the 2019 world championships, first at ten world tour events, three straight European Championships, and the Olympic Gold this past week to cap it all off. And perhaps the most impressive part of it all is that they are still closer to age 20 than 30, in a highly technical sport with one of the latest peaks for athletes.

The Vikings may not be rewriting the book on how to play beach volleyball, but they are pushing the existing formula to the limit. A heavy- swinging, ball-stopping middle in Anders Mol, and a quick, intelligent back-row defender in Christian Sorum are the basis for most beach volleyball teams. The Norweigans are just more athletic than everyone else without sacrificing any technique. They are also incredibly mentally resilient, and with the level of their serving and blocking, you can’t count them out even down multiple points.

Mol & Sorum are your team to watch if you like watching the highest level of beach volleyball we have probably ever seen, and the Vikings are such likeable guys that you won’t even feel bad cheering for Goliath instead of David.
