Favourites Pushing Through Into the Round of 16

The third day of competition at the CEV EuroBeachVolley Munich 2022 saw the men’s teams battle it out in the Round of 24 for the remaining 8 spots left up for grabs for the next stage of the tournament, where the pool winners were already waiting to see who they will be facing.

The favourites on paper went into the match day determined to make the push into the top 16 teams of the championship and to a large extent they did. The Italians Lupo/Ranghieri fell short of their goal, losing their encounter with the Dutch pair van Werkhoven/van de Velde in two sets without putting up much of a fight.

Elsewhere, five out of the total number of eight matches needed three sets to decide who the winner will be, a real testament to the quality of the teams participating in this year’s championship.

The men’s tournament resumes tomorrow with the Round of 16, with the first match scheduled to start at 11 CEST.
