Following the Drawing of Lots organised in Apeldoorn in late June and after liaising with the relevant stakeholders, the CEV and the local Organising Committee released on Wednesday the detailed competition schedule for the pool stage of this year’s EuroBeachVolley. The event will run across three Dutch cities – The Hague, Apeldoorn, and Arnhem – from August 13-18, only a few days after completion of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. It is the fourth time the event takes place in the Netherlands after previous editions held in this same country in 2006, 2012, and 2018.

Home stars Stam and Schoon will set the tone for a much anticipated EuroBeachVolley when they play their opening match in Apeldoorn

Home favourites Katja Stam and Raïsa Schoon will play their opening match in Apeldoorn on August 13. Stam and Schoon are serious medal contenders and will start their journey against Maryna Hladun and Tetiana Lazarenko from Ukraine. The fans in Apeldoorn can also look forward to an exciting men’s matchup featuring Dutch Olympians Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot against reigning world champions Ondrej Perusic/David Schweiner from Czechia. Ruben Penninga, who grew up in Apeldoorn, and his partner Thijmen Heemskerk, will play Nils Ehlers/Clemens Wickler – the current number three team in the world rankings – from Germany in their opening match in Apeldoorn as well.

After making their debut in Apeldoorn, Stam and Schoon will close their group stage in Arnhem where they will face Isabel Schneider/Margareta Kozuch from Germany. Two-time reigning European champions David Åhman and Jonathan Hellvig from Sweden are due to compete in Arnhem in a group featuring last year’s sensational bronze medal winners Sergiy Popov and Eduard Reznik of Ukraine as well as local favourites Leon Luini and Christiaan Varenhorst.

The Norwegian Olympic champions – and four-time EuroBeachVolley winners between 2018 and 2021 – Anders Mol and Christian Sørum will being their quest for further glory in the Hague. This is where former world champions and Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medal winners Robert Meeuwsen and Alexander Brouwer will be taking to the court as well. Meeuwsen has announced that he will retire at the end of the season. Reigning women’s European champions Tanja Hüberli/Nina Brunner from Switzerland will provide the crowd in the Hague with something to look forward too as well.

Hugo Campos and Joao Pedrosa, the first team to represent Portugal at EuroBeachVolley in 20 years, will make their debut against Lithuania’s Patrikas Stankevicius and Audrius Knasas on August 14 in Apeldoorn.

The group stage will be contested in a ‘traditional’ pool format, i.e. a single round robin where all four teams assigned to the same pool play against each other. This will be followed by a single elimination 24-team bracket culminating in the medal matches.
